Aurelis sustainability approach is driven by our vision, mission and values along with relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
According to the UN's 2030 SGD agenda 17 main goals are outlined which help to guide companies in advancing broader societal goals. Aurelis emphasizes these SDG agendas with collaboration and innovation. In doing so we are addressing these following goals:
Working at sea is traditionally a man's world, but we seek to encourage women to work with us and aim for equal representation in our management. Our cultivation at AURELIS generates many well paying jobs in Tanzania. In fact, our seaweed growers can earn a salary many times higher than the nations average. Thus, in Tanzania we are happy to have the vast majority of our wokers being women. The job empowers women and emancipates them financially.
AURELIS is producing seaweed using very little fossil energy resources in our mission to lower our CO2 footprint. In contrast to most food producers, we use no fertilizers or pesticides, nor do we require the use of pecious drinking water. Growing seaweed captures CO2 and reduces the eutrophication of the seawater. Additionally we establish new mangrove areas close to our cultivation site, which also bind CO2 and help fertilizing our seaweed cultivation. Seaweed farms are hanging reefs of biological value. Those swimming gardens boost a large diverse ecosystem. It gives space and feed for multiple fish and mussel stocks
Driven by need for biomass and evironmental goals, Microalgae (Seaweed) cultivation in the sea offers many advantages:
